Setup a Group
Groups are used to define access privileges to data and can be setup for Named Users or for Public Messaging (Anyone)
For Named Users, a group is created and users added to it. Only those those users can access data defined in that group. For Public Messaging, a group is created and anyone can send a query to access the data defined with that group.
First you should setup a group. Groups are used to separate data access privileges for different users. For example, if you set up a group called Admin, then you could give those users inside the Admin group access to all data, where as if you setup a group called Support, those users inside the Support group might only have access to a smaller set of data.
Click Add Group and enter a name for the Group. Tick the tables and fields you want to give permission for the users in that groups to access.
If you want to give anyone access to the data click Public Group (Public Messaging). Only one group can be a Public Group.
Click Save once you've selected the tables and fields you want to allow this group to access.
The screen shows the Group you just created, and all the tables and fields selected for access by users in this group.
Add a user
By default, MobileDataNow comes with a default user (Admin Admin), so click on this user and change the name to your own.
You don't need to change the License type or Privilege, but feel free to change the username and password to login to the MobileDataNow administration interface.
Add yourself to the group you just created. Once you click Save, you will be added to the group you just created and your name will be changed.
Click the Add User button to add more users as needed if your license supports adding more users. Users can also be dragged and dropped in to Groups.
Messaging Info Tab
Add your information about messaging in the Messaging Info tab. These messaging details are used by MobileDataNow to authenticate query requests.
Email: Enter your email address you will use for sending and receiving queries.
SMS: The mobile number must be entered in international format. eg. (country code +64)(area code 21)(phone number 303707) +6421303707
IM: To enter instant messaging identities for each user, the base instant messaging identity must first be setup in the settings before it will be displayed in the users' settings.
Custom Query Values
The User Custom Fields option provides the ability to associate a system variable (e.g. Employee ID) with a user so that purely generic queries can be created that only pull data relevant to that user.
eg. Create 'Employee ID' and give each user a unique Employee ID. This is then tied to the users' messaging details, so a query can be created with the generic term Employee ID and when the query is run, only data relevant to that user is shown.
We won't be using these for this demo, but you can find out more information about how to use these at www.mobiledatanow.com/support
